If I go into AGPLA and I buy a doll which costs $87, what do I actually pay in the end with taxes? If I flash my international plane tickets am I exempt from paying any of the taxes (hubby seems to think so)? (Coming from Australia where the taxes are included in the price on the tag so there are no nasty surprises).

    Thanks,
    Juliette

I'm pretty sure you still have to pay even if you are international.

Let me put a doll in my shopping cart to see what it says

    Item Total: $87.00
    Sales Tax: $8.08
    ______
    Total $95.08

It doesn't matter where you are from, sales taxes are based on where your purchase is made, not where you live.

    Kind of stinks, doesn't it.

Louisiana lets you get a refund of taxes if you are international , but I don't think any other states do that either.

We don't have a sales tax here in Oregon, which is now the only state in the USA without one if I am not mistaken. When I am in Portland, and drive across the river to Vancouver, Washington, I can show my Oregon driver's license and I don't have to pay thier sales tax. We are considered "tax exempt," but I don't know if that would work in other states, or even farther into WA. My best friend and I are planning a trip to AGPLA in May, and we were each thinking of buying Jess while we were there, but when you add in 8.25% in sales tax, that's a lot of extra to spend. I could do better if I bought her with one of the code savings. I have a couple of returns from Christmas, and I think I'm going to hang on to them, and just use them as exchange when we get there. I don't have to pay sales tax on exchanges!

There may be a form you can fill out when you leave the country that will get you sales tax back. Not sure.

    As a travel agent.

If you buy the doll when you yourself are in the US, you can receive your money back after you go through customs and are in the airport.

I think you have to have purchased under/ over a certain amount to do this. I'm not sure how it works in the US, but when I was in Amsterdam last Sunday, you just go to a counter with all your receipts, they copy them and add up the sales tax and give you the cash.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Dee, if you live in a different state than the AGP you are visiting, and have your purchases shipped to your home from the store, you do not pay any sales tax. You do, however, pay the same shipping costs as you do for a catalog or online order. The trick is to figure out where the breaking point is that taxes become more than shipping - if you buy less than that amount, pay the tax and carry the items home; if you buy more, ship it!
